At Cumorah Academy, our Student Leadership Interns (SLIs) play a crucial role in fostering a supportive and enriching environment for students. These leaders are dedicated to guiding their peers, organizing activities, and ensuring that every student thrives academically, spiritually, and socially. Get to know the inspiring individuals who are making a difference!

João Banks

From: Brazil | Age: 24

Before joining Cumorah, João was an intern in California while pursuing a degree in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. As an SLI, he acts as a bridge between students and administration, ensuring smooth communication of interests and expectations. His favorite part of the role? “The opportunity of interacting directly with students, coming to love them, and learning from their stories.”

Lia

From: Philippines (currently living in Italy) | Age: 21

Before arriving at Cumorah, Lia was studying public health online through BYU-Idaho while working as a dog sitter. Now, as an SLI, she oversees a student group, school trips, and campus technology. Her favorite aspect of the role is helping others: “I love helping—it makes me happy and makes me feel like Jesus.”

Caleb Romeu

From: Argentina (based in Portugal) | Age: 28

Caleb’s journey with Cumorah started as a student, but before that, he worked as a cook and an Art Teacher, teaching Art Appreciation for an American online school. As an SLI, he supports students in leadership development, service projects, and weekly activities. He is also responsible for maintaining a clean and presentable campus. His passion? “Helping students succeed, making lasting friendships, and applying everything I learned as a student.”

Emely Huaman

From: Lima, Peru | Age: 25

Before Cumorah, Emely worked full-time as a nursery teacher while taking online classes at BYU-Idaho. As an SLI, she helps students grow spiritually, academically, and personally while instilling leadership values. She finds fulfillment in watching students realize their potential: “Seeing students develop confidence in their skills and abilities is inspiring. Witnessing their transformation is the best part of my role.”

Maria Bezverkha

From: Kharkiv, Ukraine | Age: 21

Maria was a student at Cumorah before becoming an SLI. She also studied chemical technologies and engineering at university. Now, she assists with organizing activities, campus contributions, and ensuring students feel welcome. She loves seeing students step out of their comfort zones and create a positive, encouraging atmosphere.

These incredible SLIs are not only mentors but also friends, motivators, and role models. Their dedication to service and leadership enriches the Cumorah experience for every student. We are grateful for their hard work and the positive impact they continue to make!
