Bridging Cultures Through Language

In a heartwarming display of service and cultural exchange, Cumorah Academy’s Nephi group embarked on a service project in Načeradec, Czech Republic. This dedicated team of students immersed themselves in the local community, hosting an English conversation event designed to foster connections and enhance language skills through engaging activities and games.

English Conversation Event

The spirit of service was alive as the Nephi group ventured into Načeradec to spread the word about their event. A few days prior, they had put up flyers around town, providing information about the date, time, location, and focus of the event on English conversation practice.

Event Day

The event itself was a wonderful opportunity for the Nephi group to share their love of language and connect with the people of Načeradec. Bruna, a member of the group from Brazil, described the experience as “unique,” emphasizing the fun and interactive methods they used to teach English.

“It was a unique experience to teach English in Načeradec with my group, the Nephi group, and we could interact with the native people of the community. We prepared some fun games to help them practice English in a fun way, and we had a good time together. We were impressed because all of the students had a high English level,” said Bruna.

The project transcended language lessons, aiming to build bridges within the community. Lya, another member of the Nephi group from Brazil, described the service project as “incredible” and “challenging,” highlighting the power of teamwork in creating a positive impact.

Sindi, a participant of the group from Albania, echoed this sentiment, calling the project a “wonderful chance” to connect with locals and learn more about Czech culture. The conversation classes and games created a welcoming environment for everyone to get to know each other better.

Learning and Laughing Together

The Nephi group prepared games like Scattergories and Charades, facilitating fun and meaningful interactions with the community members.

Alona, the SLI of the Nephi group from Ukraine, remarked, “The service project helped me see once again the importance of connection with the local community. It was fascinating to meet familiar people who have participated in other Cumorah activities before. I loved seeing smiles on their faces during the class!”

Ana from Australia shared, “For our team’s service project, we decided to teach English in the community, and it was a good turnout! Five people came, both kids and adults. We had a lot of fun getting to know each other through games and simply conversing. Not only us, but the people who showed up to the class, you could tell they enjoyed being there, and it was nice to participate and laugh together!”

Lasting Impact of Cultural Exchange

The Cumorah Academy Nephi group’s service project stands as a shining example of the Academy’s commitment to service and cultural exchange. By sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm, the Nephi group created a positive and enriching experience for both themselves and the Načeradec community. This project not only enhanced language skills but also fostered meaningful connections, leaving a lasting impact on everyone involved.
